Ricksen practices in the area of Civil Litigation, focusing primarily on Insurance Defence and Commercial Litigation. Prior to joining the firm, he articled at a boutique litigation firm in Ottawa. Ricksen has acquired invaluable experience drafting pleadings, legal opinions, legal research, and in preparing matters for discoveries, mediation, and arbitration. Ricksen has extensive e-discovery experience reviewing complex litigation files. Ricksen has advocated before both the Superior Court of Justice and the Small Claims Court.
Ricksen obtained his BA and MA at McMaster University and received his law degree from the University of Ottawa. He has mentored other law students as part of the University of Ottawa’s Legal Writing Academy. Ricksen volunteered with the Legal Education Action Fund, which involved him attending high schools and providing seminars on human rights in the workplace. Ricksen has acted as a senior editor for the Ecojustice Clinic’s Envirohansard, and also as a course tutor for the University of Ottawa’s Property Law class, leading group tutorials for first-year students.
